Misappropriating funds meant for the poor under the government's 1AZAM (Akhiri Zaman Miskin) programme
A former political secretary to a prominent politician is being probed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the poor under the government's 1AZAM (Akhiri Zaman Miskin) programme.
It is learnt that the MACC had also seized 10 luxury vehicles belonging to the man which include a Toyota Alphard, Golf GTI, Toyoya Vellfire and Toyota Camry.
The 1AZAM programme is a government initiative under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
It was introduced in January 2010 to provide employment opportunities to the hardcore poor in the business, service and agriculture sectors.
“I went to the MACC office (in Putrajaya) using a Toyota Alphard, which belonged to Yayasan Sayang Malaysia,” he said when interviewed yesterday.The Yayasan Sayang Malaysia is a non-governmental organisation, which Suhaimi is the president.
